LOUIS D. NEUBURGER GOSHEN, NEW YORK Louis David Neuburger, age 86, of Goshen, New York entered into rest with his family by his side on Monday May 18, 2009 at Orange Regional Medical Center-Arden Hill Campus, Goshen. Lou was born on April 18, 1923 (the day Yankee Stadium opened), the second of 13 children of David and Theresa Neuburger. He remained a lifelong NY Yankee fan. Lou served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Combat Medic in the 38th Infantry Division. He fought in the South Pacific, including the Philippines. Lou was the recipient of the Bronze Star with two Oak Leaf Clusters and was awarded two Purple Hearts. He was a steadfast supporter of his fellow veterans and was an active member of the Catholic War Veterans, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Military Order of the Purple Heart and the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. He was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church and a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Lou loved residing in Goshen where he was a 33 year employee of the Goshen Post Office. He also served as a Goshen Village Trustee and as village Police Commissioner. He was a tireless community volunteer including spearheading a project to recognize historical Civil War figure Anna Dickinson who resided and is buried in Goshen. He also served as Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 66 in Goshen for 10 years. Survivors include his loving wife Margaret Munro MacLeod Neuburger at home; children Louis Jr. and his wife Jane of Fayetteville, NY; Lawrence Angus and his wife Joan of Durham, CT; James Paul of Goshen; Maryann MacLeod Lloyd and husband Jeff of Goshen and John and his wife Lynn of Fayetteville, NY. Lou had 14 grandchildren of which he was extremely proud. He loved telling stories to "the first six are boys and the next 8 are girls": Louis III and his wife Annabelle, Thomas and his wife Emily, Michael and Elizabeth and her fianc Greg; Lawrence Jr. and his wife Jackie, Ryan and Allison; Jennifer; Jeffry, Kristen and Emily; and Heather, Julie and Katie. He had 4 great grandchildren Leah Rose, Acacia Rain, Lawrence Stephen and Hazel Ruth. He is survived by brothers and sisters Nicholas (Hortense), Joseph (Pat) Tom (Barbara), Rose, Theresa, Lorraine (Carlos) and Stephen (Kathy), all in California or Colorado. Visitation will be Thursday May 21, 2009 from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. and 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. at the Donovan Funeral Home, Inc. at 82 South Church Street, Goshen, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday May 22, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist RC Church 71 Murray Avenue Goshen. Burial will immediately follow in St. John's Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made in Lou's name to Goshen Volunteer Ambulance Corps, PO Box 695 Goshen, New York 10924. Lou loved to talk about life experiences, history, the Yankees and his family.
