Dear Family- I remember Mr. Nueburger from my childhood. I would come into the post office with my Dad and Mr. N. and Dad would chat away which seemed like an endless time. They would talk about WWII, what was going on in the town etc. I would get impatient. The my dad died suddenly in 1966. Mr. N. always stopped to talk with me when I came into the post office. He would ask how my sisters were, how was my Mom and what we were doing. He cared. He told me often how proud my Dad, Jim Musgrave, would be of me and my sisters and my Mom for keeping everything going as normally as before. He was a boost to a young girl's confidence. I hope your good memories fill the void in your hearts. God Bless, Wendy Musgrave Paffenroth- Pine Island NY

description: I am saddened at my Uncle Lou's death, and send greetings and love to all the family.
You ask for a story: my favorite Uncle Lou story dates from the big deal trip we Fulkersons took in the big green station wagon when it was new, drove across country to visit the family we had heard so much about. I as the oldest was about fifteen. Lou took us in to New York City to see the sites; this had to include the Subway, since his father had worked on it, and Grampa had told me horror stories about the people who got caught on the third rail, etc. So down we went. It was the loudest noise I had ever heard, utterly uncomfortable, and we came out sweaty and gritty. Everybody in our family thought the experience horrible, but I had only thought of it as a way to get from point A to point B, and Grampa's stories had kept me from thinking it was going to be a joy ride. Everybody (probably including me) complained bitterly about the experience and this hurt and annoyed Lou, who had thought he was just doing his duty showing us the subway. We were totally unpre
pared for how awful the subway was going to be, we were truly in shock. It was impossible to say anything nice about it, but I managed to chime in with, "Well, thanks for the experience, Uncle Lou." He laughed loud and long about that, and seemed to really appreciate that though I couldn't thank him for the "pleasure," which it wasn't, he could at least be thanked for the "experience." I didn't even know that what I was saying was funny, but that was what Lou's sense of humor could be like. He found something to appreciate about being spoken to in as diplomatic a way as I could muster. That story was a family staple for years, whenever something happened that we really didn't like, but which added to the fund of knowledge, we might jokingly say something like, "Well at least it was a new experience." I will miss Uncle Lou.

My deepest sympathy to Mrs. Neuberger and the whole family. My memories of high school days at Burke with Jimmy and his brothers are joyous. I remember many occasions at Burke since then talking and laughing with Mr. and Mrs. Neuberger. I shared the same likeness of the Yankees so we had great conversations through the ups and downs the Yankees have given us. I admired your love of life, each other and family. May the road rise to meet him and may our Lord always hold him in the palm of his hand. God bless all of you through this difficult time. May the support and love of family bring you through, and May the Peace of Jesus grace you. Peacefully, Mary

Dearest Peggy, I used to work with you at Highland Telephone many years ago and I am so sorry to hear that your "soulmate" has passed along into Heaven. I have so many good memories of you and your great sense of humor and I hope that this will help you through this difficult time, as well.
I remember some of the practical jokes that you used to pull on me as well as some of the other operators and I have to laugh whenever I think of the one Halloween costume that you came to work in. It was one the best that I had every seen!! All I'll mention is the black hat, beard, long black coat and who you were imitating! Gosh, that was one of the funniest moments there at HiTelCo, for sure!!
You were always so happy and proud of the family that you and Lou raised and I remember how we had the love of the Yankees in common. Just think, Lou is probably sitting up there in Heaven with a big smile on his face talking baseball with some of the greats like Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, and too many others that have left us over the years!
I hope that with time and the support of your family, Peggy, you'll get through this. But know that however difficult it is for you, Lou will always be there sitting on your shoulders and guiding each of you because he not only loved you all but adored you all, as well.
God Bless You & may you find comfort through this difficult time!
Sincerely,
~ Nancy (Maine) Bokhoor, Holly Springs, North Carolina

My condolences to the Neuburger family, I went to St. Johns Elementary and John S, Burke with John as well as participating in Boy Scouts with him. I remember visiting Mr. Neuburger at the post office when I would occasionally help John on his paper route, his participation in the Boy Scouts and feeling so welcome by him and Mrs. Neuburger when I was at their home "hanging out" with John. He was truly an asset to the village of Goshen and will be sorely missed by his family and all who knew him. God Bless, Mark Sienkiewicz, Malabar, FL

My condolences to you all on your loss of Lou, he was a fine man. I remember all of the camping trips, especially Beech Mt. with all of the other Goshen Boys, I really enjoyed them. Growing up around your family in the early teen years was a great comfort to all of my family after the loss of my mom. May you all comfort each other in this time of sorrow and keep the memories of Lou alive. God Bless.

Peggy,and all ...
Memories of growing up on Greenwich Avenue with you as our neighbors...Lou was always there...we called him our guardian angel...especially the night our baby brother Bill wondered out into the night to check on our new puppies. It was Lou who heard a small voice outside our front door, "let me in, let me in" and came to his rescue. Lou will always be remembered as the gentlest spirit, loving and devoted to family and friends. Lots of love to each and everyone of you and my sincerest, heartfelt sympathy.

Our condolences to Peggy and the entire family. Having known Lou since his days in the Post Office and working with him in many community venturs my first recollection was how he loved paricipating with me in Lectoring at the Masses of St.John...always ready to pick up when some one couldn't attend...and always smiling and caring. His service to St.John will be missed. Our prayers are with you Peggy and the family.
