Jeanne R. Meehan
Jeanne R. Meehan, 86, died February 4, 2015, at the Orange Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born in New York City, but made Goshen her home more than 60 years ago following her marriage to the late John Francis Meehan.
Jeannie lived life on a grand scale as the matriarch of a large family and as a passionate volunteer, party giver, decorator, gardener, golfer, and bridge player. No wall was too big for Jeannie to paint-burgundy and gold were her palettes of choice, followed by shades of pink-and she personified "DIY" long before Martha Stewart became a household name.
Independent to the end, her last social engagement was an evening bridge party-no surprise to any of her friends. She was a woman of definite views and an avid reader of the political expose, but Jeannie's family and the community of St. James Episcopal Church were at the center of her life.
Jeannie is survived by a sister, Elizabeth Reilly of Greenwich, Connecticut; four children, Moira Meehan of Boston, Mass., and Terence Meehan, Avice Meehan, and Rebecca Holmes, all of New York City; six grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, including Kathy Downes of Campbell Hall. She was predeceased by her husband, John Meehan, and a son, Timothy Meehan of Garrison, New York.
Calling hours will be at the Donovan Funeral Home on Friday, February 6, from 3 to 6 p.m. A service of Christian Burial will be held at St. James Episcopal Church at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 7, with a reception to follow in the Church Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. James Episcopal Church in Goshen.
