Susanne Degan, a resident of Goshen for many decades, passed gently into eternity on Saturday, December 12, 2015, with her children by her side. The daughter of the late Walter A. and Loretta Doran Clements, she was born Susanne Elizabeth Clements on August 5, 1931 in South Bend Indiana, and was raised and educated there. While attending St. Mary's College in 1952, she met University of Notre Dame student John R. Degan. A month after Jack graduated, they were married on July 19, 1952. After living for a time in Kansas, California, New Jersey and Chester, NY, in 1960 the couple settled in Goshen where Susanne lived for the remaining fifty-five years of her life. She is survived by her seven children, John R. Degan, Jr. of Norwood, PA, Tom Degan of Goshen, NY, Peter Degan of Toronto, Canada, Carol Pennings of North Myrtle Beach, SC, Susanne Dermigny of Middletown, NY, Jeff Degan of Brittney, France, and Sarah "Sally" Degan of Trumbull, Connecticut; her two brothers, Walter Clements of Chicago, Illinois, and Robert Clements of South Bend, Indiana. She is also survived by fifteen loving grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and her sister-in-law Audrey Degan Gargiulo of Goshen. In addiotion to Jack, who passed away in 1989, She is predeceased by her brother, Bill Clements (1983), her sister, Marietta Barras (1989), and her infant son, Thomas Matthew Degan (1956). A funeral mass will celebrated at 12 noon, on Saturday, December 19, at St. John the Evangelist Church in Goshen. Interment will follow at St. Columba Cemetery, Route 94 in Chester. In lieu of flowers, you might want to make a donation to the Maryknoll Missionaries, 55 Ryder Rd, Ossining, NY 10562. Also, be kind to one another. .
