I only meant Matt twice but I have heard many stories about him from his stepson Garrett. Garrett always said that Matt was a good man and treated him well. Matt was somone who Garrett respected because he "never laid a hand on him." Matt radiated light for those around him. He even helped me study for an algerbra test. We will miss him and I wish that he arrived in Garretts life sooner.

"We Didn't Get To Say Goodbye":
"We didn't get to say goodbye
We're devastated that you're gone
We did everything to try keeping you here with us
Right here where you belong
We didn't know that life would take
Such an unexpected path
That you'd20be separated from us so soon
Heartbreaking reality we struggle to grasp
And bitter though our losing you has been
And so profound is the pain that we bear
We're sadder still at no chance for goodbye
No final expression of our deep love and care
Yet believing that you're not too far away
That you’re Spirit still lingers quite near
We'll say our goodbyes in our words and our thoughts
Trusting that each one you'll hear
First, know that you were loved in the truest of ways
So deep that only our hearts can give expression
You'll be forever surrounded by our love
For we're sending it straight up to Heaven
Please know that you'll be cherished by each one of us
For your example and kindness we'll treasure
We understand now how your life was a gift
That was meant to bless us forever
And though we'll miss you terribly
We want your Spirit to be free
Free to enjoy all the wonders of Heaven
Not bound to us in our grief
So watch over us with happiness from Heaven ..."
AUNT JOAN WE LOVE YOU!

Matthew & I played both football and baseball together at Babylon. He was one of the best athletes I had to play with. As teamates we shared the 'PLAQUE' as the best baseball players of 1974.The coach that year, Marty Albert said it was because we always helped the younger players get better. To me, that sounds alot like Matty Ryan. God Bless

You are a sweet man who left us way too soon. I knew you since we were kids, recall some high school antics. You helped Kate and me move to Boston, and I remember your and your family's kindness when my mom died.
RIP, Matt, and my sincere condolences to your entire family.
Love,
Ruth

I've been crying for several days now. I regret not getting to talk to Matt one more time. He was the kindest, gentlest soul I ever knew. Some of the fondest memories of my life are of the times I spent with Matt. My thoughts are with Nona, the children and the entire Ryan family

To the Ryan Family:
I was terribly saddened to hear of Matt's passing. I haven't spoken with him for many many years.
Matt and I were attached at the hip through baseball from age 10 through 18. For our age group, the two of us shared the pitchers mound almost exclusively - just the two of us from Little League through High School. In fact, during our junior year, the two of us threw 8 out of nine compete game shutouts in a row. Though I probably wouldn't have admitted it at the time, Matt was the better pitcher. He had a very nasty fastball that he could throw consistently at the knees. If you don't believe me, ask his brother John...who I would sit on the bench with when Matt was on the mound. Matt was good hitter too!
I knew Matt as a great teammate and friend - he always had a way of keeping everyone around him loose with his dry sense of humor and cool. We played on so many teams together, I couldn't possibly list them.
It does not surprise me at all to hear of his successful teaching career - that was Matt!
My best wishes and prayers to all the family - Matt is a guy I will never forget.
Sincerely,
Bill Glover

He and I shared many fun times together as we grew up in Babylon. I extend my sympathies to all of you in this time of sorrow.
