I just learned of Coach Memmelaar's passing and I was immediately struck with a profound sense of loss. Coach Memmelaar was a wonderful coach and helped me in a very trying time in my life, and I will always remember him with a love and fondness I have rarely felt. He was a true human being, and gave his time and love to others without prompting or question. I only attended Washingtonville HS for one year, but Coach Memmelaar and his wisdom has continued with me, and helped make me a better person. To the Memmelaar family, thank you for sharing your husband and father with us, we are all better for knowing him, even such a short time as I have the privilege to share. May he be in heaven before the devil heard he had passed.

Our many wonderful memories of Dale and the time we spent with him and his family have given us comfort/peace in this difficult time. He truly was a gentle giant, bigger than life itself and was such a positive influence to everyone he touched. We feel blessed to have known him and only wish we could be there to give our sympathy personally to Peg, Gretchen, Daley and family; however, they know that our Love and Prayers surround them, no matter how far away we are.
It's not the time spent on earth but the LOVE shared while here . . . .Dale's love encircled everyone he met.

Dear Peg, and the Family of Dale:
Bev Clark mailed me the wonderful newspaper article about Dale, and I am delighted to see that Dale quite obviously walked with the Lord and was ready to meet Him. I rejoice with you in that good news. It is always good to hear a positive note about one's personal faith in Christ, for that is the only thing that endures in life. I look forward to seeing Dale one day when the Lord's work for me is done.
I trust and pray you are all
ready, as apparently was Dale.

To all of the Memmelaars ~ Art and I are so sorry that we will not be able to be with you during this sad time. I have many, many memories of so many of you: Dale helping with some excavation at our house here in Campbell Hall when I was a teenager, Freddie working in the school cafeteria when I was in junior high and he signed my autograph dog (!), Millie and her lovely family as our neighbors and friends who have helped us so many times in so many ways, Sherman and Sandra who have meant so much to us throughout the years, Dale and Gretchen during their years at Taft when I was fortunate enough to be their teacher, and dear sweet Peg when she was Miss Mabie, my home ec teacher, at the very beginnning of her career (I still think of her when I am baking and remembering the hints she gave us), etc. You are all in our thoughts, our prayers, and especially in our hearts.
With love ~

Mr.Memmelaar was my neighbor from the time I arrived in Washingtonville at the age of 5 until I left at the age of 23. Because of our neighbor status I have many memories involving them both, but this is my fondest memory of Mr. Memmelaar. When I was in HS, he was the big teddy bear who made sure I was treated correctly by the other students. I saw him regularly in the hallway outside the gym on my way to the band room. He always asked how I was and had a smile and a quick hug for me. He always made me feel special and even though I haven't seen him in a few years, he will be greatly missed.

Dear Classmate Peggy:
I am saddened to hear from Bev of Dale's departure, and Betty and I wanted to send to you particularly, and to the rest of the family our deepest condolences, trusting that Dale is at home with the Lord. May His grace and peace sustain you and give you strength through this time of sadness. I'm sorry we can't be there with you at this time, but you will certainly be in my prayers during these days.
Warmly, in His love,
Bosey (and Betty)
