So sorry to hear of this loss; I was truly shocked and saddened to hear of Dick's death.
I worked with Dick for the first few years of my career at the phone company, when it was still very much old school and hard core most of the time. I had the honor of working with Dick in the time when Newburgh CXM still handled work in the New Paltz area, and did a ton of good work with him up there, much of which is still working today. I can easily remember the many good conversations we had before we started our day over breakfast at "Sis's Twist" in Modena, as well as many good hours of being patiently taught how to build things right. He was always very quick to correct me when I messed up, but he did it in a way that helped make me a much better technician. I remember one time, when we were doing work at the Central Hudson substation in Modena, that I misunderstood his instructions and cut off a number of important live data circuits (we were doing a throw). He didn't go off on me at all; he just came up to me and told me to get them all put back together... Quick!
I enjoyed Dick's company and leadership for quite a long time until I finally left for the Installation and Maintenance Dept in 1996. He was the kind of guy that I could always work with, no matter what the job involved or where it was. He was a phone guy through to his bones, proud of his appearance, careful with his use of time, and utmost in the quality of his work. He was unequalled in the finished quality of his jobs, and that is something I remember clearly to this day.
His loss is a tremendous one for me as well as all that knew him, and I just wanted you all to know how much I thought of Him and how important he was in my life.
God bless you, my old Friend... I will both miss you dearly and think of you often. I remain
Very truly yours,
