William Lorne Donnelly, 99, of Goshen, entered into rest Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Glen Arden Health Care, Goshen, NY.
William was born July 3, 1915 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of William Henry and Jane (Hoctor) Donnelly. He was the widower of Marie G. (Busch) Donnelly who preceded him on December 18, 2008.
William served in the United States Army as Captain in the Medical Corps during World War II from 1945-47. He attended Erasmus Hall High School, Brooklyn, NY, New York University College of Engineering, Columbia College and College of Physicians and Surgeons, College of Medicine, Columbia University. William was Director of Ophthalmology Mercy Hospital, Rockville Centre, NY; President, Long Island Ophthalmological Society; Chairman, Section of Ophthalmology, Nassau Academy of Medicine; Fellow, American College of Surgeons (FACS); Fellow, American Academy of Ophthalmology. He was Chairman, South Central District, Nassau County Council, Boy Scouts of American and a member, Executive Council, Nassau County Council, B.S.A.
William is survived by his 5 children, Laureen Donnelly of Bar Harbor, ME; Gregory Donnelly and wife Ann of Big Fork, MT; Michael Donnelly and wife Patricia of Goshen, NY; Kevin Donnelly and wife Judi of Wellesley, MA; and Christopher Donnelly and wife Ann of Williston, VT; 7 grandchildren, Peter Donnelly, Daniel, Kiely and Laura Donnelly, Lisa and Jenny Donnelly and Kristen Donnelly; and 2 great-grandchildren, Kiran and Rhona as well as by his sister-in-law, Sister Victoria Busch.
He was predeceased by his wife Marie and brother, Henry Gordon Donnelly.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 12 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Donovan Funeral Home, Inc., 82 South Church Street, Goshen, NY.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:00 am on Friday, March 13, 2015 at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, 71 Murray Ave, Goshen, NY.
Burial will be in Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary Cemetery, Southampton, NY on Saturday, March 14 at 11:00 am.
