My favorite memory about my Uncle Bob was whenever I needed anything, he was always there for me. I remember one time we played golf together and he decided to let me drive the golf cart. I had never driven a golf cart before, so when I hit the gas pedal we started going sideways. Uncle Bob quickly grabbed the wheel from me and proceeded to drive the golf cart. As we came to a stop I said I'm sorry Uncle Bob. He replied, that's okay I always got you. Uncle Bob was always there for me and that I will always remember! I will miss him so much, no one will ever be able to replace him. He will forever be my Uncle Bob.

My recollection of first meeting Bob, was almost 40 years ago, when we served together, as members of the Village of Maybrook Planning Board. We took an instant liking to each other. After all, it was pretty easy to like Bob. Eventually, when I became a Village Trustee, I had to resign my post there. Over the years, and mostly in the military, where we served together, I go to know and respect Bob. He became CSMaj and I a Platoon Sergeant. He would learn of my exploits in assisting people in need, in particular in the military. He would ask me, "Are you behaving yourself"? And then a quick, "Right On", in approval. Once, when a fellow soldier was prejudiced by his civilian fellow workers, because of his bi racial marriage, I went to his aid, and asked Bob if there were any openings for the man; a good and decent individual, in his employment. Bob jumped right on it. CSMaj Robert Thomas, you fought your earthly battles, the race is over and won, and it's time to say, Mission Accomplished, my friend. May God Grant you Eternal Rest In Heaven, and Comfort and Peace to your loved ones.

Mary, I'm not so good with words so I'll steal a quote from a poet:
"And if the Wine you drink, the Lip you press, End in what All begins and ends in--Yes; Think then you are today what yesterday you were--tomorrow you shall not be less.
So when that Angel of the darker Drink, At last shall find you by the River-brink, And, offering his Cup, invite your Soul forth to your lips to quaff--you shall not shrink."
Cheers my friend, 'twas good to know you.

Bob Thomas was a gentleman with the greatest class, style, dignity, compassion and devotion to his God, Country and Family.
We worked together at Central Hudson in Fishkill where Bob and I worked getting the utility troops out every day.
Bob was just the hardest working guy, and working as a Team to get the job done every day was, well just make so effortless with a Major in the room.
I weep for his wife, Mary and his beloved sons. You all shared a very special human being with us every day for all those years. Taken from you too soon. Bob was respected and admired.
May the Peace of Our Lord be with him now and forever.

My two favorite memories of you, dear Bob, and Mary, are of one night when you hosted one of your warm, gracious parties at your home with wonderful music and terrific food, and the Temptations' "My Girl" started playing, and you began to dance together in your kitchen in beautiful rhythm to the music. It was like the song was made for the two of you to dance to. You held each other tight, smiling, and your love and devotion to one another shown through --- and your great sense of style too:). My second favorite memory, of you, dear Bob, was at the 2012 Maybrook Memorial Day Parade as you led the parade as Grand Marshall, proudly wearing your military uniform. We have always been proud of you and your military service, but that day, your true love of our wonderful country shone through, and we were so proud of you!!! Love you forever, to the moon and back! Bob was a great person whom I will sorely miss. He always had a smile on his face that lifted one's spirits. Now that Bob is gone the sun will lose some of its warmth, flowers will lose some of its fragrance and the summer night's stars will lose some of their brightness. Rest in Peace Bob and may the Good Lord bless you with a place in his heavenly kingdom.

I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER WHEN COMMAND SGT MAJOR ROBERT THOMAS NEEDED TO GET HIS COMMAND GENERAL FROM FLOYD BENNETT FIELD IN BROOKYN NY TO FORT DIX NJ. THE BAD WEATHER PREVENTED THE OLDER MODEL ARMY HELICOPTER TO MAKE THE FLIGHT. SO SGT MAJ THOMAS GAVE ME A CALL. WHEN HE ARRIVED AT THE COAST GUARD HANGAR WITH HIS GENERAL, HE APPROACHED ME IN STOIC MILITARY FASHION AS I WAS PREFLIGHTING MY CG DOLPHIN HELICPOTER FOR THE FLIGHT. I SALUTED THE GENERAL AND THE GAVE MY UNCLE BOB A BIG HUG AND SAID "LETS GO UNCLE BOB ....I'M DRIVING THIS TIME". THE GENERAL JUST SMILED AS UNCLE BOB SALUTED ME AND SAID “OK LT MARTIN THIS TIME...". ON THE OVER 3,500 FLIGHT HOURS AND CG MISSIONS I'VE FLOWN SAVING COUNTLESS LIVES AND PROPERTY; THE FLIGHT WERE I WAS ABLE TO HELP OUT MY UNCLE BOB IS ONE I WILL ALWAYS CHERRISH. NOW HE’S FLYING WITH ANGELS! LOVE GREG
