Obituary of Evelyn Charette
Please share a memory of Evelyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Evelyn Charette, 79, of Goshen died Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Middletown, New York.
Evelyn was born December 17, 1934 in Providence, Rhode Island, the daughter of Giovanni and Antonetta (Nardacci) Ricottilli.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, James F. Charette at home; her children, Major James M. Charette USMC (retired) of Middletown; Debra Charette-Ierardi of Middletown, and Sally Anne Elving of Chester; her brother, John Ricottilli and wife Mary of Sarasota, Florida; 4 grandchildren, Mallory Witty and husband Rick; Michael Ierardi; Elizabeth Elving; Philicity Charette, and 2 great grandchildren, Annika Witty and Dahila Witty. Additionally she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Frances Scotti, Mary Ise, and Lucy Massarone.
A longtime teacher's aide at the Chester Presbyterian Nursery School, she had the opportunity to be involved with countless numbers of pre-school children. She thoroughly enjoyed going to Chester School functions. Inevitably the visit would result in her getting a chance to see, and say hello, to many junior and senior high school students that she had last seen when they were in pre-school. An avid reader, she was rarely found without a book in her hand. Although she sometimes seemed quiet and unassuming, she had a great sense of humor and a zest for life. Her friends were treated more like family than just friends. She took immense pride in her children and grandchildren, and looked forward to watching her great grandchildren grow. It's impossible to determine how many lives she touched, and equally impossible to measure the magnitude of the void she will leave behind.
Donations may be made in her name to Citizens Reunited to Overcome Cancer (CROC), PO BOX 860, New Hampton, NY 10958.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 18 from 2-4 pm & 6-8 pm at the Donovan Funeral Home, Inc, 82 South Church Street, Goshen, NY.
The funeral will be held 10:00 am on Wednesday, February 19 at Donovan Funeral Home, Goshen, NY.
