LILLIAN "LIL" MARGARET KEHOE
September 23, 1919 - November 27, 2013
Goshen,NY
Lillian "Lil" Margaret Kehoe ofGoshen,NYpassed away on November 27, 2013 at the age of 94.
The daughter of the late Francis and Catherine Josephine Moran, Lil was born inBrooklyn,NYon September 23, 1919. When she was very young she moved with her family toQueens,NYwhere she grew up. She attended St. Benedict Joseph Elementary and graduated from Richmond Hill High. Upon graduation she commuted to a job with the Met Life Insurance Company inManhattan, married her husband, John, in 1947, and had five children.
In 1960, Lil and her family moved toGoshen,NY. Less than four months after moving her husband passed away leaving Lil alone to raise her five children - her eldest child was 12 and the youngest four at the time. To support her family, she took an administrative secretarial position with the Orange County Civil Defense Office where she worked for more than 22 years until retiring. At one point in her service, during a leadership transition, she served as the Acting Director.
On a typical workday, she would use her lunch break to drive home and start preparing the dinner meal while also fitting in some laundry chores - five young children can create an endless supply of dirty laundry. Then after work she would rush home to finish dinner while trying to take care of all the other household tasks before making sure her children were finished with homework and ready for bed. In the morning, she would be up first to fix breakfast and prepare school lunches. Then she would be off to work again.
Lil treasured her Catholic faith - and fiercely loved her five children, ten grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. In return, they adored her. They know her as either "Mom", "Nan" or "Nan Mom" and they implicitly know that her life was devoted to loving them. They also know her arc of love, caring and kindness was very wide - extending outward from her family and relatives, including her sister, three daughters-in-law, a son-in-law, and nieces and nephews, to friends and neighbors and to those that she hardly knew, but would briefly encounter throughout her long and busy days. It should come as no surprise that Lil and her elder sister, Kay, delivered "meals on wheels" while they were in their late eighties to elderly that were often much younger than they were. Lil belonged to the Altar Rosary Society and for many years she volunteered her time atArdenHillHospital.
Lil is survived by her son, Jack and daughter-in-law, Kathleen; daughter, Joanne Eurich; daughter, Mary and son-in-law, Kevin Dooner; son, Patrick and daughter-in-law, Bobby; daughter-in-law, Patricia Kehoe; grandchildren: Sean, Colleen, Bridget, Sharon, Kate, Erin, Mary Ellen, Cailin, Danielle, Trisha; great grandchildren: Jack, Franny, Josie and Eva; and sister, Catherine Quinn. She is predeceased by her beloved son, Daniel; her husband, John; and her brother, Francis Moran.
