William Patrick Powers
March 7, 1922 - January 4, 2009
William Patrick Powers, 86, of Campbell Hall, NY died Sunday, January 4, 2009 at St. Luke's Hospital, Newburgh, NY.
William was born March 7, 1922 in Middletown, NY the son of James C. Powers and Frances Margaret (Feeny) Powers. He was the husband of Mary Elizabeth Roberts Powers.
William served in the United States Navy as a Senior Chief Petty Officer Aviation Machinist Mate for 23 years and was a veteran of WWII; was Undersheriff for Orange County Sheriffs Department; and a Troop Leader for Boy Scouts of America. He was an avid hunter, gardener and member at large of Fleet Reserves.
William is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Elizabeth (Libby) Powers of Campbell Hall; 4 sons, Patrick Michael Powers and wife Theresa of Lake Itasca, MN, Terrence Shawn Powers and wife Bonnie of Middletown, Kevin Joseph Powers and wife Susan of Glen Burnie, MD, and William Patrick Powers II of Escondido, CA; sister-in-law Virginia Powers of Lake Havasu City, AZ; 12 grandchildren, Morgan, Oscar, Kevin, Garrett, Jesse, Molly, Katie, Angus, O'Shamus, Darienn, Liam and Meghan; 4 Great grandchildren, Cody, Andrew, Evelyn and Sean Patrick; cousins, Matthew and Margaret Powers; niece, Madeline Paugh and nephew, James Powers and numerous other nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by 3 brothers, Jerry Powers, Joseph Gilson Powers and Richard Powers; and his sister, Margaret.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 7, 2009 from 7-9 pm at the Donovan Funeral Home, Inc., 82 South Church St., Goshen. Funeral Service will be Thursday, January 8 at 2:00 pm with Father Carl Lunden officiating.
Burial will follow in Orange County Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Goshen.
