Harry "Hap" L. Murray, Jr., 87, of Chester died Sunday, June 10, 2012 at Norwood Hospital, Norwood, MA.
Hap was born April 30, 1925 in Chester, NY, the son of the late Harry L. Murray Sr. and Lillian (Diffily) Murray.
Hap served in the Navy on the USS Finch Destroyer Escort during World War II. He retired as the Regional Produce Buyer for A&P Food Stores. He was Past Commander of Orange County American Legion, Past Commander of Post 1167 American Legion - Chester, member of the Chester Walton Engine and Hose Co., Knights of Columbus - St. Columba, Past Chairman of Assessors Board of Review, and a life long member of St. Columba R.C. Church.
Hap is survived by his wife Rosemary Sheehan Murray at home; daughters, Ursula Dalton of Upper Saddle River, NJ and Bernadette Costa and husband Joseph W. Costa, Jr. of Norfolk, MA; brother, William Murray of Chester; sisters, Jean Murphy of Goshen, Mary Kay Campbell of Arizona, and Barbara Karl of Monroe; 5 granddaughters, Clare, Catherine and Courtney Dalton and Meghan and Caroline Costa. He was predeceased by his son-in-law, Kevin W. Dalton, sister, Elizabeth Carey, and brothers, Robert, James and John Murray.
Visitation will be Friday, June 15 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Donovan Funeral Home, Inc, 82 South Church Street, Goshen, NY.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, June 16 at 10:00 am at St. Columba R. C. Church, 27 High St, Chester, NY with Father John officiating. Burial will follow in St. Columba Cemetery, Chester, NY.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Columba R.C. Church, 29 High Street, Chester, NY 10918.
