Joan Micaela O'Dowd Degan of Coral Gable FL, Formerly Goshen NY
Passed away in Coral Gables, Florida on June 4, 2011. Joan was born on Aug 9th 1927 in Coral Gables Florida, the 4th of nine children of Henry William O'Dowd and Katharine (Dyer) O'Dowd. She was predeceased by her husband Eugene B. Degan, her son Edward J. Degan II, brother William O'Dowd and sister Virginian O'Dowd. She is survived by her brothers James O'Dowd and his wife Elizabeth of St Louis and Frank O'Dowd and wife Jean of Coral Gables; her sisters Mary and Alice O'Dowd of Coral Gables, Catharine Gregory of Ft. Lauderdale FL and Sheila Tobin and Husband Robert of Washington D.C.. Her children Mary Ann Degan of Coral Gables Fl, Micaela Wilson of Belmont MA, Melissa Degan of Ithaca, NY, Eugene Degan and his wife Doyle of Goshen NY and James Degan of NYC.
She is survived by grandchildren Katie (Degan) Smith and her Husband Nick, Edward Degan III and his wife Tara , Patrick Degan, D.R. Erskine, James Erskine, Andrew Erskine, Nicholas Wilson, Julian Wilson, John Wilson, Erin (Degan) Lowey and her husband Manfred, Margaret Degan, Eugene Degan III, Timothy Degan, Claire Degan and Paul Degan: Great grandchildren Liam, Mauve, Harry and Edward Degan and Makayla and Makenzie Lowey . As well as numerous nieces and nephews
Joan grew up in Coral Cable FL, where she graduated from St Theresa of the Little Flower High School She attended Collage at Good Council in White Plains, NY, were she met and married her roommate's brother, Eugene Degan. She and her husband raised their children in Goshen, New York where she was an active participant of St. Johns Parish and was involved for years in meals on wheels in the community. She was also a member of Orange County Golf Club where she enjoyed her passion for golf. In her retirement years she was a member of St Theresa of the Little Flower Parish.
Mom was a wonderful mother who will be dearly missed by all here children. The family wishes to acknowledge the extraordinary care of Catholic Hospice, which helped provide a serene and loving passing for our Mother. Visitation will be on Friday, June 10 from 2:00 to 4:00 & 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Donovan Funeral Home, Inc, 82 South Church St., Goshen.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, June 11 at 10:00 am at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, 71 Murray Ave, Goshen.
Burial will follow in St. Columba Cemetery, Chester.
