Obituary of Warren E. Elfers
Please share a memory of Warren to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Warren E. Elfers, 72, of Campbell Hall, NY, died with his son at his side on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY after a courageous battle with leukemia.
Warren was born April 19, 1938 in Bronx, NY to late Richard and Josephine (Schluter) Elfers. He was a graduate of DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx and attended Hunter College. He spent many youthful summers in Pleasant Lake Lodge, NH where he worked as a teenager and will soon return.
Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, he joined the NYC Bronx Fire Department Ladder 49/Engine 68 company in 1961 and married his wife Velma. He proudly worked as a firefighter for 20 years selflessly helping his fellow brothers respond to emergencies to protect life and property. He then worked in the Middletown Post Office for 23 years and retired again in 2003.
He cared for, nourished, and protected his beloved wife, Velma, for 49 years until her light was taken. He loved traveling to picturesque far-off tropical islands with Velma and watch the sunsets or feel the Sun's warmth as he snorkled in the ocean.
He is survived by his son Chris Elfers from Fairport, NY and his brother Donald from Lake Ariel, PA.
