I was fortunate to work with "Miss Elizabeth" (a name that one of our patients called her that always brought a smile to her face when I said it) at Arden Hill and to spend some special times outside of work. It was always a joy to see her. Her first concern was always how I was doing. We could re-connect instantly even if we hadn't seen each other in a while. Whether at work or over the produce at Price Chopper, we shared our thoughts and feelings, our fears and our joys, and our faith. We prayed for each other and for those we were concerned for. We laughed together. She was courageous and graceful, serious but girlishly silly and always a lady. I will miss talking about parish priests and their homilies, our work and the twists and turns of our lives and how our religion and spirituality made all the difference in how we continued to move forward. I was glad that she trusted me enough to ask my advice, discuss her doubts and the pain she never wore on her sleeve or allowed to affect her professionalism and love and concern for others. Her accomplishments and struggle with quiet courage will always inspire and motivate me to do the best I can do; to trust in the Lord despite the cost or burden. She was a "tough Bronx gal" with a heart of gold and I loved her. I will think of her often and I will never forget her. I used to kid her about her "Breakfast of Champions" (a serving of bacon from the cafeteria) but we shared that as well and I think of her every time I get one. I will pray for the Lord to comfort her family and many friends. I'm so glad she was able to experience the joy of being Grandma. I know that she has already met the Lord and is free of pain and grief and the burdens she carried. I rejoice in that, though her parting leaves such a great space in the lives of those who loved her. May our Lord bring them comfort, healing grief and inspiration and courage like our dear Betty's.

I first met Betty when I transfered to Behavioral Health Services in 2006. The first moment I met Betty I knew that someone very special had been brought into my life.
Each day that I had the opportunity to interact with Betty was a day filled with laughter, joy and knowing that no matter what happended during the day - Betty could be counted on to help you through and make the sun shine through the darkest clouds.....just with her smile.
On September 11th the world lost one it's most most precious and special human beings. When you look up at the stars at night that bright shining star you see is Betty smiling down on us and helping us through yet another day.

Elizabeth Duffy is the definition of courage. I was very saddened to hear of her departing us but I know she's in Heaven with those she has missed so much and I have faith we'll all be together again someday. Until then, we will miss her. Love to her family and friends.

Dear Suzanne and Family,
I met Suzanne in downtown Manhattan on a special day 4 yrs ago. Through our friendship I came to know of her precious Aunt Elizabeth. She has been in my thoughts and prayers and will continue to be. She was a courageous woman like my Mom was. Hold on to your precious memories and know that I am grieving with you all.
With much love, Denise M DePew

What can you say when you are blessed with having an angel as your friend? Betty and I met in nursing school and from the start I realized that God had given me one of the sweetest, kindest friends I would ever know. We laughed, cried, rejoiced, and comforted each other through the years as only true friends do. Too many memories to list, many of them private, that I will treasure forever in my heart. My dear friend Betty, how I will miss you. Now God has called you home, your work here is done. Thank you for being such a special part of my life. All my love always..I have to close now as the tears are overwhelming.....

Very sorry about the loss of such a wonderful lady. Even her own darkest hour, she shined. She always had a kind word and spoke so lovingly on many occassions about her sister, son, neice - everyone! My deepest sympathies to the entire family. She will certainly be missed.

Betty was one of the most considerate human beings you could ever meet. She was unconditional in her kindness and regard for everyone. Never a cross or mean spirited word. Stoic in the face of the greatest adversity. To the end she did not want to be pampered or fussed over. Always concerned about how her actions impacted on others. Betty was respected and adored by everyone at ORMC.
She was the best of all of us.

I used to work with Betty years ago at ORMC. What a beautiful woman. Always happy and optimistic and more concerned about others than talking about herself. Always in a good mood . You would never know that she was struugling with an illness. i pcked up the paper this morning and saw the obituary. I am so sorry for your tremendous loss. She truly was a beautiful woman..
