Grace M. Skyer
Grace M. Skyer, a life long resident of Goshen New York passed away on August 30, 2010.
Born September 17, 1925 in the Bronx, New York City to Thomas and Helen McCormack she attended New York City Public Schools and graduated from Pratt Institute in 1946.
Grace worked for the New York State Cooperative Extension in Home Economics, including hosting a radio show on the subject, until she married Maurice "Max" Skyer, DVM in November 1952. Grace assisted Max with the operation of the Orange County Veterinary Hospital.
Grace lived in Goshen New York for most of her life. Grace also spent many wonderful summers at the family summer home "the Burrow" in Gaylordsville Conn.
In 1965 Grace started her career as a teacher in the Goshen Elementary School where she worked until her retirement in 1987.
Throughout her life Grace was generous with her time. Grace volunteered for many years for the Boy Scouts of America. All four of her sons were Eagle Scouts and which was a great and long source of pride to Grace.
Grace is survived by are her four sons, Kenneth T. Skyer, of Goshen New York, David C. Skyer, of San Diego California, Douglas M. Skyer of Nampa, Idaho, and Stephen A. Skyer of Ramsey, NJ, that she loved with all of her heart, and her sister Jean Adams of Findley, Ohio.
Relatives and friends are welcome at Donovan Funeral Home, Inc., 82 South Church Street, Goshen, NY 10924, on Friday September 3, 2010 between the hours of 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
