What an unexpected loss for our family. Ken was the middle child with his older brother, John, to look up to and his younger sister, Kathy, to love and protect. I have many memories, especially of the time he lived near us in Southern California. Going to the beach was always fun and our sons, Andrew and Ryan, loved boogie boarding with Uncle Ken. We enjoyed our visits with Ken and JoAnn at their Huntington Beach home where the boys would take turns playing on Uncle Ken's drum set. Ken joined us for many holiday and birthday celebrations. This is where I remember the smile in the picture above to be so prevalent. Ken loved cars and that was a topic he and I would enjoy talking about as I am a lover of cars, also. Ken was a prolific writer. He started different novels and loved adding details of places he had visited. However, it was in letter writing that he excelled. HIs family and friends received many letters and cards from him. Often times we would open a correspondence from him that would contain a meticulously cut out article from the New York Times about his favorite sports teams, art, new museum exhibits or anything he thought might be of interest to us. Sometimes he would recount a trip that he took by train into New York City. Ken traveled by car extensively in the last five years. Living alone gave him the opportunity to pack up and head out on a road trip. Ken filled his life with thinking about his family and friends and, I am sure, reliving the many memories he had built through his life. We are lucky to still have our memories of Ken. He will be missed.
