Obituary of Solveig Irene De Jong

Solveig Irene de Jong Goshen, NY Solveig Irene de Jong of Goshen, passed away with her family by her side on Wednesday, February 10, 2010, after a long illness. She was 71. The daughter of the late Joachim and Olga Gryte, she was born on September 20, 1938 in Stavanger, Norway. Along with her husband of 53 years Cornelis "Kees" de Jong, she came to the United States in 1965 and has resided in Goshen since 1972. Here she dedicated her life to raising her five children and then enjoying the spoils that come with being "Grandma". She basked in the joys of helping to raise her nine grandchildren and was extremely excited for the upcoming birth of her tenth grandchild in June. She also enjoyed bowling and playing cards. In addition to her husband, survivors include sons, Jonny de Jong and his wife, Dreslyn of Florida, NY, Gunnar de Jong and his wife, Deborah of New Hampton, Glenn de Jong and his wife, Lisa of Florida, NY; daughters, Jane de Jong and her spouse, Daniel Ogden of Bloomingburg and Kim Potter and her husband, Mike of Woodbridge, VA; her grandchildren: Michelle, Cory, Travis, Amanda, Connor, Ryan, Emily, Sophia, and Korinne; she is also survived by sisters: Solvi Salte and her husband, Svein of Goshen, Bovgny Moi and her husband, Einar of Bedford, Oddfrid Jasond and her husband, Peder of Norway, Olga Osthus and her husband, Toralf of Norway, Brit Helle and her husband, Kjell of Norway, and Jill Gvnn Gryte and her spouse, Svein of Norway; brothers, Olav Gryte and his wife, Toril of Norway and Peder Gryte and his spouse, Solvi Bjornsen of Norway; and many nieces nephews, and cousins. Friends are invited to call on Monday, February 15, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Donovan Funeral Home, 82 South Main St., Goshen, NY. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, February 16, at 10:30 a.m., at St. James Episcopal Church, 1 Saint James Place, Goshen, NY. Burial will follow at the Wallkill Cemetery, 160 Midway Rd., Middletown, NY.
