Obituary of John Joseph Novak
Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John Joseph Novak, born in New York City but long time Goshen resident, passed away on Sunday, May 9th, 2021 surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was 76 years old.
John was the son of the late John Joseph Novak Sr. and Maude Freeman Novak.
John and Donna Novak were married on June 8th, 1980. Their much loved, incredible children John and Kendall were born in 1985 and 1988. After being together for 45 years, and happily married for 40, they were blessed with a grandson, Maxon, by their son John and daughter-in-law Meaghan. Maxon was a shining light in John's life. We trust that he will continue to watch over his grandson. John was an avid fisherman, sailor, boater, animal lover, world traveler and loved to watch his old cowboy movies. John spent his happiest moments surrounded by his family, his cat Dakota and his Saturday morning "Donut Crew". He enjoyed driving his boat on Greenwood Lake with his nephew Anthony catching the biggest fish the lake had to offer. John was not only a big Yankee fan but noticed for his talent as an ace pitcher. He was drafted by the AAA Kansas City Athletics baseball team. Not wanting to leave home, he declined the offer and was eventually drafted into the army. He fought in Vietnam where he earned a bronze star for heroism, a purple heart, and an army commendation medal for meritorious service in Vietnam. For the last 25 years he was highly regarded as a successful yacht salesman and was a force to be reckoned with in his industry.
He is survived by his beloved wife Donna, his cherished children John (Meaghan), Kendall and his grandson Max. Also mourning his passing are; his sisters, Murial Jaccoi, Gail Novak, her children Anthony (Lisa) and Dawn, his great niece and nephew Toni-Ann and Nicholas Vilord, and many nieces and nephews. Of great importance to him was his longtime "brother" and partner in crime Chris Sacco.
He was predeceased by his parents John and Maude Novak, his sisters Jean and Barbara and his brother Gary.
Visitation will be Saturday, May 15 from 1:00 to 4:30 P.M. at Donovan Funeral Home, Inc, 82 South Church Street, Goshen, NY. The Funeral Service to Celebrate his life will be held 4:30 pm.
