Mary Theresa Long
December 29, 1946-November 7, 2019
Mary T. Long entered into eternal rest at home in Middletown, NY, surrounded by her loving family. She was 73 years old. Mary was born Dec 29, 1946 to William and Harriet Hoffman in Bronx, NY. She is survived by her devoted husband and best friend of 55 years, Robert A. Long, who lovingly and selflessly cared for her through her illness and stayed beside her on her journey from this life. She is also survived by daughters Theresa Reinle and Mary Ellen Wismer, who shared the honor of caring for her at home, and her son, Michael A. Long, along with their spouses, her numerous grandchildren, and by her beloved rescue dogs, Munchkin and Molly. Mary's life was centered around her family. She was an incredible cook who was famous to her grandchildren for her meatballs and her "gramma soup". Mary had a passion and kindness for animals and opened her home to many rescues throughout her life. She was an avid gardener whose summer flowers would cause passerby's to pause and admire. Mary was an exceptionally creative woman with a talent for decorating. She was the lead salesperson for both Treasure Island and Leisure Unlimited in Scarsdale, NY. Her Christmas trees and wreaths were used in television commercials and she became highly sought after for decorating in the private sector. After retirement, she enjoyed making her creations for craft fairs and just spending time with her favorite people; her husband and children, and her pups, always referred to as her "babies"
Her blue eyes were the subject of compliment everywhere she went. Mary touched the lives of many with her grace and a beauty that radiated both inside and out. She will be lovingly and irreplaceably remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. May she be at peace and reunited with her beloved sister, Helen Caruso, who predeceased her and who she deeply missed throughout her life. Her light has faded but has left a warmth that will live on and guide those who so deeply loved her.
Her family deeply appreciates all the love and support received from family and friends throughout her illness. Notably, we would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Dr. Russell Chasin and his wonderful office staff for their exceptionally compassionate care. Arrangements have been made through Donovan's Funeral Home in Goshen, NY. Services will be private. We ask that you celebrate Mary by spending time with loved ones and reflecting on her life, the laughter and the love she shared with you. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her honor to your local humane society.
